Research increasingly depends on the ability to find, connect, manage, share, and reuse complex data. Although this complexity can present significant barriers to discovery, researchers do not have to address it alone or wait for future solutions.

From Data to Discovery: How the Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) Helps Researchers Put Data to Work will introduce three RENCI-supported resources that researchers can use today: Proto-OKN, the HEAL Data Reuse Team, and iRODS. Through short presentations followed by a moderated panel discussion and audience Q&A, RENCI experts will demonstrate how these resources support knowledge discovery, secondary data analysis, responsible data management, collaboration, and reproducible research.

    Speakers include:

  • Jim Balhoff, Assistant Director of Analytics and Data Science, will introduce Proto-OKN, a federated network of interconnected knowledge graphs that integrates public data and enables discovery across datasets and research domains.
  • Suparna Goswami, Senior Research Scientist, will discuss the HEAL Data Reuse Team’s tools that help researchers find and reuse shared data about opioid use, pain management, and related topics.
  • Terrell Russell, Director of Data Management and Executive Director of the iRODS Consortium, will explain how iRODS provides open-source, policy-based capabilities that help research organizations manage, share, document, protect, and preserve data.

Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of what these resources make possible, the research challenges they address, and how to begin using or engaging with them. The panel will be moderated by Chris Bizon, RENCI Interim Deputy Director.
