Scientific discovery alone is not enough to improve health and well-being. Meaningful impact occurs when evidence-based interventions, programs, policies, and practices are effectively disseminated to and implemented by the people and organizations that are positioned to bring them to life in communities. This session will explore “”what’s next?”” for health promotion and disease prevention research by showcasing innovative strategies for translating evidence into action across clinical, community, educational, and public health settings.
Research leaders from the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP) and affiliated programs will share brief presentations illustrating how they are extending the impact of their work and the findings of others beyond traditional research environments. Topics will include scaling evidence-based interventions, disseminating effective policies and practices, leveraging community and institutional partnerships, training the next generation of health educators and health professionals, and advancing implementation strategies that promote population health and well-being. Featured examples will span chronic disease prevention, nutrition and culinary education, early childhood health promotion, and cancer prevention.
Through a series of presentations and discussion, speakers will reflect on the opportunities, challenges, and lessons learned in moving research into diverse real-world settings. The session will highlight multiple pathways for amplifying evidence-based interventions through partnership, practice, and policy while fostering connections among researchers, practitioners, and community members interested in extending the reach and sustainability of health promotion efforts.
Attendees will gain insight into how Carolina researchers are transforming discoveries into meaningful action and will be invited to consider how collaboration can accelerate the translation of evidence into healthier communities. This session will showcase the people, partnerships, and implementation strategies helping ensure that research makes a lasting difference where it matters most.
