Quantum technologies promise to reshape computing, communication, scientific discovery, and economic development, but significant scientific and technical challenges remain before that potential can be fully realized.

What’s Next in Quantum: Carolina Research at the Edge of Computing will bring together researchers and infrastructure leaders from UNC-Chapel Hill, Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI), and Microelectronics Center of North Carolina (MCNC) for an accessible, cross-disciplinary conversation about the current state and future of quantum research. Panelists will explore advances in quantum computing and communication, the materials and systems that make those advances possible, and the shared infrastructure and statewide investments needed to advance fundamental quantum technologies and move them from laboratory research toward practical use.

The event will also feature a soft launch of UNC’s new quantum website, offering the Carolina community a central resource for discovering quantum research, expertise, and opportunities across campus. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of what quantum technology could make possible, the challenges researchers are working to overcome, and how UNC and its partners are helping shape what comes next.

    Panelists include:

  • Jim Cahoon (Department of Chemistry)
  • Jacob Rudd (MCNC)
  • Yufeng Xin (RENCI)
  • Wei Zhang (Department of Physics and Astronomy)

Nate Warren from the Office of Research Development will present a soft launch of UNC’s new quantum website. The panel will be moderated by Becky Boyles, RENCI Interim Director.

This is a virtual event.
