Innovation in the Changing Technology Landscape
With data produced at unprecedented rates, every sector of society is grappling with the challenges brought forth by the rapidly changing climate of ‘big data.’ Researchers at the Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) are committed to tackling these challenges and transforming data into discoveries across research domains. Join us for a webinar to learn more about how RENCI researchers are addressing changing climates in environment, health, and networking research.

The agenda for the webinar is as follows:
- Director, Ashok Krishnamurthy, will kick off with an overview of RENCI.
- Brian Blanton, Director of Earth Data Science, will introduce a project focused on an infrastructure for computing, visualizing, and disseminating realtime coastal water level and wave predictions from tropical and extratropical weather systems, leveraging containers, workflow managers, and cloud resources.
- Suparna Goswami, Senior Research Scientist, will introduce Dug, a powerful semantic search tool that allows researchers to identify novel and serendipitous connections between studies, datasets, and variables that could be related to each other.
- Paul Ruth, Assistant Director of the Network Research & Infrastructure Group, will provide an overview of the NSF FABRIC project, which is focused on building and prototyping ideas for the future internet at scale.
- The webinar will conclude with a live Q&A session moderated by Hannah Hawkins. Note: the webinar will be recorded and made available for later viewing.
A research institute of UNC-Chapel Hill since 2004, RENCI is a hub for innovation that fosters data science expertise, advances software development tools and techniques, develops effective cross-disciplinary and cross-sector engagement strategies, and establishes sustainable business models for software and services.
