The Importance of Language
A lecture and discussion on the importance of gendered language in the context of the early modern period and how this language parallels with our understanding of gender identities and language today.
The lecture will include references to works from Shakespeare, Jonson, and Lyly, along with various other playwrights and authors of the period. After the talk on the vitality of language and identity in the Renaissance, a round table discussion will open up for how these concepts are paralleled in writings from the 21st century.
