As hurricane seasons become increasingly unpredictable, timely and accurate information is crucial for policymakers and response teams. Join us for an in-person panel discussion at RENCI, where experts will dive into the transformative power of APSViz—a state-of-the-art tool for visualizing coastal hazards and supporting policy decisions during hurricane events.
Dr. Brian Blanton (RENCI) will kick off the session with an introduction to the ADCIRC Prediction System (APS), a cloud-ready data, visualization, and information delivery system. APS computes and disseminates real-time coastal hazards information. A key component of this system is APSViz, a web portal developed by RENCI’s Earth Data Science group that visualizes these complex computer simulations.
Dr. Cassandra Davis and Dr. Evan Johnson from the Department of Public Policy will offer their unique perspectives on the value of APSViz in public policy research and its contributions to smarter, data-driven decisions for disaster response in North Carolina and beyond.
The discussion will conclude with a Q&A session, moderated by Dr. Ashok Krishnamurthy, RENCI Director
