Join Dr. Nabarun Dasgupta, a national leader in overdose prevention, for an eye-opening look at how science and community partnerships are saving lives. Dr. Dasgupta directs the UNC Street Drug Analysis Lab, a groundbreaking public service that tests the street drug supply with atomic precision. To date, the lab has analyzed more than 16,000 samples from nearly 200 health providers across 40+ states, giving health departments, hospitals, and community organizations real-time data to prevent overdoses. Dr. Dasgupta believes in “science in service” – listening to communities with humility and building solutions that respond to their needs. Don’t miss this chance to discover how UNC research is making a difference in curbing opioid deaths across North Carolina and the nation. In this session, you will:

  • Learn what’s really in today’s street drug supply – and why it matters.
  • Understand the latest trends in overdose prevention and addiction treatment.
  • Explore the human impact of three decades of intergenerational grief caused by the overdose crisis.
  • Hear what’s working in North Carolina and which communities are still at risk.

This event is free to the public. Local community members involved in substance abuse programs or healthcare, as well as professionals in public health and social work, including faculty and staff from UNC’s Departments of Social Work, Public Health, and Public Policy, won’t want to miss this Research Week event.
