Now in its second year, this newly created class has an international spring break trip to the U.S-Mexico border and will be offered this spring through the Hussman School, in collaboration with UNC’s Institute for the Study of the Americas.

Crossing Borders: Journalism, Human Rights, and the Law is taught by professor Erin Siegal McIntyre with an impressive variety of guest lecturers. This skills class, capped at 12 participants, examines the intersections of human rights, journalism, and the law, while focusing on best practices for cross-cultural foreign reporting and trauma-informed coverage. Spanish is not required; Spanglish is encouraged. Students must have passports.

Come hear from Professor Mack and students from the 2025 Crossing Borders cohort, and learn about the experience!

This is a hybrid event.
