SUMMARY:Undergraduates in Public Health Research: From NC to Beyond
DESCRIPTION:This presentation highlights the impact of undergraduate involv
 ement in public health research and how student projects directly benefit 
 communities. Through the Osteoarthritis Action Alliance’s Walk With Ease
  Kansas Data Project\, students contributed to the evaluation of a workpla
 ce wellness program\, creating data visualizations and employer-facing mat
 erials to promote healthier lifestyles.\nIn collaboration with Dr. Emily G
 ower in the UNC Department of Epidemiology\, students also support two maj
 or vision health initiatives. The Women’s Health Initiative adds new in-
 home vision assessments to better understand how vision loss impacts quali
 ty of life\, health\, and independence among women aged 80 and older. Mean
 while\, the Rural NC Vision Study brings free vision screenings and eye he
 alth resources to under served counties such as Lenoir and Cumberland. Tog
 ether\, these projects expand access to care and generate insights that gu
 ide future interventions tailored to North Carolina’s needs\nBy engaging
  directly with communities\, analyzing health outcomes\, and developing ou
 treach tools\, undergraduate researchers demonstrate how UNC research exte
 nds beyond campus—improving quality of life\, reducing health disparitie
 s\, and strengthening public health across North Carolina.
