 and Conservation
DESCRIPTION:Come learn about opportunities to explore the ecology and conse
 rvation of sharks at UNC's marine lab (Institute of Marine Sciences\; IMS)
  at the coast!\n\nEMES 089 is a First Year Seminar offered during the Maym
 ester (~ last 2 weeks of May).\n\nThis course will provide a foundational 
 introduction regarding the biology\, ecology\, and conservation science of
  sharks\, with a heavy emphasis on field-based experience/learning. Levera
 ging the local environment near IMS\, the class will also focus heavily on
  field-based experiences demonstrating shark research methodologies and co
 ncepts related to the natural history of sharks\, as well as the ‘ecosys
 tem roles’ of sharks within coastal marine habitats such as salt marshes
 \, oyster reefs\, seagrass meadows\, and beaches. Although focused on shar
 ks\, this seminar will highlight the interdisciplinary links among the mar
 ine life sciences\, coastal ocean processes\, and management.\n
