SUMMARY:Experience the Experimental Engineering Lab
DESCRIPTION:Step inside the Experimental Engineering Lab (EEL) in the Depar
tment of Computer Science\, one of UNC-Chapel Hill's most unique research
environments\, and discover how researchers and students turn ambitious id
eas into working technologies.\n\nLocations and projects to be displayed:\
n\n\n	Room SN244\, Robotics and Autonomous Vehicles: Biologically driven a
utonomous vehicles and PAWS\, an assistive navigation robot.\n\n	Room SN23
6\, COMP 290 Course and the Machine Shop: Conversations with students and
lessons on how fabrication and welding turn research ideas into working de
 vices.\n\n	Room FB241\, Virtual Reality\, Augmented Reality\, and Hologram
s: Interactive showcases of boundary-aware redirected walking in virtual r
eality\, mixed-reality motorcycle assembly training\, and floating hologra
 phic displays.\n	Room SN247\, Fluids\, Movement\, and Perception: Demonstr
ations of finger-position optimization for swimming\, a hand position trac
king glove\, and augmented aurality.\n\n\nThe Experimental Engineering Lab
supports research that blends computing with hands-on engineering\, provi
ding access to spaces and tools rarely found within a computer science dep
 artment\, including machine shops\, electronics fabrication facilities\, r
apid prototyping labs\, wet labs\, and specialized testing environments. S
tudents and researchers use the lab to develop everything from robotics an
d virtual reality experiences to health technologies and environmental mon
itoring tools.\n\nThis is an in-person event.\n\nAs part of UNC Research W
eek and in partnership with Carolina Performing Arts\, this open house inv
ites UNC and Chapel Hill community members to explore the lab through 10+
demonstrations and conversations with Carolina researchers and students.\n
\nThis “Open Laboratory” concept offers a preview of what attendees ca
n experience at Carolina Performing Arts' upcoming All. Together. Now. fes
tival (February 19–21)\, which will bring together artists\, scholars\,
and communities. Through interactive experiences and informal discussions\
, festival participants will discover how research\, creativity\, and coll
aboration can deepen our understanding of the world and inspire new possib
ilities for the future.\n\nWhether you're curious about emerging technolog
ies\, interested in the creative process\, or simply looking for a behind-
the-scenes look at research happening on campus\, we invite you to partici
pate in UNC Research Week by visiting the EEL Lab to experience innovation
  in action.\n\n
