DESCRIPTION:\n\nJoin the Parr Center for Ethics for fast-paced\, accessible
  talks about cutting edge research in ethics! Each speaker will have 15 mi
 nutes to provide an overview of their research\, with short breaks in betw
 een speakers. Additionally\, Ethics Fellows will talk about ways to get in
 volved in undergraduate research at the Parr Center for Ethics! Refreshmen
 ts will be provided afterwards.\n\nTopics\n\nEhsan Sheikholharam: Kant’s
  Cosmopolitan Right\, Ethics of Pluralism\n\nGabriella Hulsey: The Moralit
 y of Callouts\n\nJohn Miller: Contemporary Reformism in Islamic Ethics\n\n
 Alex Richardson: Ethics of Civility\n\nSpeakers\n\nEhsan Sheikholharam: Ka
 nt’s Cosmopolitan Right\, Ethics of Pluralism\n\nEhsan is a Teaching Fel
 low and a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Religious Studies at UNC Ch
 apel Hill. Bridging architectural theory with critical discourses on relig
 ion\, his work offers a multidisciplinary model for interpreting the spati
 al dimension of ethics. His research contributes to the study of the mater
 ial culture of religion by examining the link between identity politics an
 d the political economy of space. Ehsan has received recognition from inst
 itutions such as the University of Miami\, Dumbarton Oaks’s Mellon Initi
 ative\, and the Roshan Cultural Heritage Institute. His work has been publ
 ished in the American Academy of Religion’s Reading Religion\, IranNamag
 \, Maydan\, and WIT Press. Ehsan also serves as a Graduate Fellow at the K
 enan Institute for Ethics at DUKE University.\n\nGabriella Hulsey: The Mor
 ality of Callouts\n\nGabriella is a third-year PhD student at UNC's philos
 ophy department. She works primarily on ethics\, and is especially interes
 ted in ethical questions about how we ought to relate to and interact with
  one another.\n\nJohn Miller: Contemporary Reformism in Islamic Ethics\n\n
 John Miller is a third-year doctoral student in the Department of Religiou
 s Studies at UNC and a graduate of the UNC School of Law. His research int
 erests include contemporary philosophy of religion in Iran\, Muslim recept
 ions of Aristotle\, and progressive Islamic thought.\n\nAlex Richardson: E
 thics of Civility\n\nAlex Richardson is Director of the National High Scho
 ol Ethics Bowl\, headquartered at the University of North Carolina’s Par
 r Center for Ethics in Chapel Hill. Working at the intersections of ethics
 \, political philosophy\, and the philosophy of education\, Alex is an awa
 rd-winning teacher and a strong advocate for public and pre-college philos
 ophy pedagogy. Alex’s philosophical work focuses on the liberal virtue o
 f civility\, and its role in the non-ideal politics of democratic societie
 s like our own. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee\, K
 noxville in 2021.
