DESCRIPTION:In celebration of 2024 University Research Week (October 21-25)
 \, the School of Medicine solicited nominations for innovative scientific 
 images that showcase the outstanding biomedical research in the School and
  the beauty that is reflected in the science.\n\nFor the entire research w
 eek\, the winning images of the School of Medicine Art in Science Competit
 ion will be on display in the first floor auditorium of Bondurant Hall. Co

 eptember 30\, 2024)\n\nFeature image: Allaura Cone\, PhD\, Meredith Chambe
 rs\, and Dirk Dittmer\, PhD\, in the UNC Department of Microbiology & Immu
 nology and the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center\, were recognize
 d in 2023 for their image titled\, “Endolysosomal Compartments in U-2 OS
  Cells\,” fixed and stained with CD81 (cyan)\, LAMP1 (magenta)\, and Rho
 damine-Phalloidin (yellow). Imaged at 100x on a confocal microscope\, tetr
 aspanin CD81 and Lysosome-associated membraine glycoprotein 1 (LAMP1) are 
 important for the trafficking of extracellular vesicles throughout the cel
 l.
